Small Beginnings

It is an ode to my father, a man who forgo the merriment of teenage and youth to bring happiness to a family. A man very different from myself, who does not know the meaning of the word relax. To date, he runs in search of work, work is worship. In a world where we struggle to find the right job, he picked one from his limited choices and committed himself to it unlike the current generation that sifts through jobs to find the best fit. I was in school when he finished his graduation. As a live example he redefined the age to study. I realize fathers are the born role models but in my case, I say it with pride, I can see no better.

18 and in search of work,
Carry a weight larger than life,
The youngest child, the only son,
In search of stability among the rifts.

Love and respect for all,
He forges an iron will,
Walking the path less traveled,
With tenacity in his words.

Not the dreams of a teenager,
One that of the man of the house,
Stepping into shoes far too early,
Leading a family with faith and hardwork.

The ups and downs hit harder,
The weight of the decisions higher,
Running on all cylinders all through,
Now a silent way of life

The river of life carving,
A monumental living sculpture,
With lessons learnt sailing,
Now a son, brother, husband and a loving father.

Now the revered Captain stands to leave,
The weight no more holding back,
To dream and live the days of young,
Larger than life, from small beginnings

Listening to the heart

The yearning ---------------------- I had grown tired of the city I was living. Life had started to follow a routine. It was comfortable and it was good but in those minutes between, I had started to think otherwise. It had reached a point where those few minutes between started to influence the good times and I started to consider. Maybe it is time, I moved on. Move on from this comfort zone I was currently living  to something new. Doubt ---------- Right now, there are moments I wonder if made the right choice. I realize it only means I should have done it sooner. The smooth and fast pace is now replaced by a need for patience, and learning and creating the new normal. I am now surrounded by a new set of people. A friend had once pointed out, " You are an acquired taste". So in all those moments of anxiety, I remind myself, give it time. Let the episode of your brash arrogance fade away, you can shine after. Until then, stay focused, there is a herculean task ah...

A lesson for all times

Remember the boy who cried wolf, Deceiving the good folk again and again, Not realizing the repercussions, The villagers lost faith. Remember the boy who cried wolf, Whose momentary lapse in judgement, For a fading temporary amusement, Lost him his life and livelihood. Not knowing the repercussions, He amused in the pleasure of his actions, Not knowing the consequence, He indulged in his dishonest deeds. When the day of reconning arrived, He was standing alone, Facing the might of karma, What goes around comes back around The lessons of honesty and faith he learnt, Though too little too late, Passed down through generations, From a mother to son, father to daughter Helping mold young minds, To imbibe the values of honesty, In the grand scheme of things, Understand the value of trust and faith. But life is such, It tempts one to lie and cheat, Than stand your ground, Because it is easier to sway.

Stone Gods

Photo Credit: Chris Ensey Worship Gods carved into stones, With deep reverence stemming from generations, Wishing for health and prosperity, For yourself and your next of kin. Shower gifts and offerings in plenty, Hoping for a blessings, a better future, In return for our unsullied adoration, Pray stone Gods save our tomorrow. Do they truly? Or is it a facade of our "self", A "self" that we are too estranged to see, A "self" lost in the pages of our beliefs. Aching for validation in rocks, Why don't we chisel inward through the veils of our glorified illusion, Seek within, and reverberate with every speck for all the faith we yearn, And in return find the self that was once born pure. But if you must, pray to the sun that shines every morning, Pray to the winds that bring rain, Pray to the earth that lay beneath, Pray to your health that suffers your carnage everyday.
